EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Appearance: clear, colorless liquid. Flash Point: 52 deg F.
Danger! Poison! Flammable liquid and
vapor. May be fatal or cause blindness if swallowed.
Vapor harmful. May be absorbed through intact skin. May cause severe
respiratory and digestive tract irritation with possible burns. May
cause severe eye and skin irritation with possible burns. May cause
central nervous system depression. May cause kidney damage. May cause
reproductive and fetal effects. Cannot be made non-poisonous.
Target Organs: Kidneys, central nervous system,
eyes.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause painful sensitization to light. Vapors may cause eye
irritation. May cause severe eye irritation and possible injury.
Skin:
May cause severe skin irritation. May be absorbed through the skin.
Ingestion:
May be fatal or cause blindness if swallowed. May cause systemic
toxicity with acidosis. May cause liver and kidney damage. May cause
central nervous system depression, characterized by excitement,
followed by headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and nausea. Advanced
stages may cause collapse, unconsciousness, coma and possible death
due to respiratory failure. May cause severe digestive tract
irritation with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Inhalation:
May cause severe irritation of the respiratory tract with sore
throat, coughing, shortness of breath and delayed lung edema. May
cause effects similar to those described for ingestion. Inhalation
may be fatal as a result of spasm, inflammation, edema of the larynx
and bronchi, chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. May cause
drowsiness, unconsciousness, and central nervous system depression.
Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis. Chronic
inhalation and ingestion may cause effects similar to those of acute
inhalation and ingestion. May cause reproductive and fetal effects.
Section 4 - First Aid Measures

Eyes:
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes,
occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid imme
diately.
Skin:
Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes
while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid if
irritation develops or persists.
Ingestion:
If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical
aid immediately.
Inhalation:
Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not
breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult,
give oxygen. Get medical aid.

Treat symptomatically and supportively.

As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in
pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full
protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases
may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use water
spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Flammable liquid and
vapor. May be ignited by heat, sparks, and flame. Vapors may form an
explosive mixture with air. Containers may explode when heated.

then place in suitable container. Wash area with soap and water.
Remove all sources of ignition. Provide ventilation. A vapor
suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors. Water spray may
reduce vapor but may not prevent ignition in closed spaces.
